2024 Stage 5 Overview

All students will be timetabled with:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • History (1 x semester elective)
  • Geography (1 x semester elective)
  • PDHPE
  • Sport
  • 3 x electives each semester

Term 1 will see all students in foundational English, Maths, and Science classes. During this time, students will complete a series of activities to determine their academic levels of achievement before being given the choice of mini-electives in their core subjects. This will help guide students to make suitable choices that challenge them academically and to give them some agency and choice within their studies.

Students will have choice/mini electives within each core subject.

History and Geography will be delivered within our elective lines - students will have the choice of when they will complete these mandatory courses.

The school will continue to deliver a formative assessment-based model, plus continue to work with Melbourne University and the New Metrics Complex Competencies of Acting Ethically, Active Citizenship, Agency in Learning, Communication, Collaboration, Personal Attributes and Quality Thinking.

Students will continue to learn about the Career Clusters and link their skills and interests as they move toward choosing their Year 11 & 12 pattern of study.

Year 8 will choose their electives for next year towards the end of Term 3 – we will be holding a series of information and mentoring sessions prior to subject selections to ensure students are choosing a suitable pattern of study.

Students and parents will know if each elective is a foundational, intermediate or advanced level elective.

Students and parents will be able to see if each elective has a foundational level of Maths, Science or English before choosing their elective patterns.

Each elective is categorised under our 4 streams, Quest, Discover, Create and Inspire. Each of these streams is then mapped to the Career Clusters, which in turn, are mapped to the Year 11 and 12 courses of study available in NSW.

Students interested in following a Big Picture Learning design will be able to apply and commence in Year 9, 2024.
