Essentials for Learning and BYOLD

At Jerrabomberra High School, we expect every student to arrive ready to learn, bringing the right equipment each day to set themselves up for success. As a BYOLD school, students are also required to bring a personal laptop that meets our specifications so they can access digital learning tools every day.

Essentials for every student

Uniform

  • Full school uniform every day, with sports uniform worn only on allocated days
  • Enclosed leather shoes for practical subjects

Exercise books

  • 5 A4 ruled exercise books, 96 pages each (one per subject)
  • 1 A4 5mm grid book, 96 pages
  • A3 visual art diary (minimum 60 pages, 110gsm) — required for Stage 4 and specific Stage 5/6 subjects

Stationery

  • Pencil case including: pens, HB and coloured pencils, glue stick, eraser, sharpener, small scissors, 30cm ruler, geometry set
  • Scientific calculator — Casio fx-100AU (preferred) or Casio fx-82AU

Classroom teachers may advise if additional items are required for their subject

Bring your own learning device (BYOLD)

Minimum device specifications

  • Windows 10 or 11 operating system (preferred for full Microsoft compatibility)
  • Minimum 10-inch screen with physical keyboard
  • Battery life suitable for a full school day
  • Wired headphones
  • Mouse (optional but recommended)

Additional recommendations

  • Maximum weight: 2kg
  • Maximum screen size: 14 inches
  • Accidental loss and breakage insurance
  • Protective casing (scratch/impact/liquid splash resistance)

Not permitted

  • iPhones/smartphones
  • Tablets (e.g. iPads)
  • Devices smaller than 10 inches or without a physical keyboard

Software access
All NSW public school students can access the Microsoft Office suite: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneDrive and OneNote.

  • Staff can support setup and troubleshooting for Windows devices.
  • Functionality and support may be limited for Mac or Chromebook users.
