Wellbeing
At Jerrabomberra High School, student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We want every student to feel safe, included, and ready to learn. Whether support is needed for mental, emotional, social, or physical wellbeing, we help students thrive — both at school and in daily life.
How we support students
Supporting each student’s wellbeing is part of everyday life at JHS.
We provide:
- Caring teachers who make every student feel welcome and included
- School counsellors, psychologists, and specialist staff
- Health, social skills, and positive behaviour programs
- Support for students who are new or moving between year levels
- Clear expectations for behaviour and respectful relationships
- Staff who know each child and work closely with families
- Individual health care plans where required
- Open communication with families about wellbeing and support
Connect
Connect is our whole-school mentoring program, designed to strengthen the bonds between students and teachers so every student feels supported and connected at school.
Connect supports students through three key pillars:
- Communication: Weekly assemblies and a mentor teacher as the main contact for notices and updates
- Curriculum: Individual Engagement Plans and activities that build collaboration, creativity, communication, and reflection
- Culture: Team spirit within Connect groups and positive participation in school life
Meet our wellbeing staff
At Jerrabomberra High School, every teacher plays a role in supporting student wellbeing. Alongside classroom teachers, we have specialist staff who provide extra care for students and families.
- Student Support Officer (SSO) – Enhances learning and wellbeing outcomes through early intervention, referral pathways, and strengths-based programs. SSOs collaborate with the School Counselling Service and external agencies to build resilience, coping skills, and positive relationships.
- Oakley – School Support Dog – Our much-loved support dog greets students with a wagging tail and provides comfort, connection, and joy throughout the school day.
- Defence School Mentor (DSM) – Supports our Australian Defence Force (ADF) families, helping students with relocations, transitions, and deployments. DSMs work closely with staff, students, and families to ensure Defence children feel welcomed, connected, and supported.
- School Counsellors – Provide individual and group counselling, assessments, and advice for students and families. They collaborate with teachers and external professionals to create safe, supportive learning environments.
